Indian Drone Shot Down by Pakistan in Gujranwala Amid Rising Border Tensions
Gujranwala, Pakistan – May 8, 2025
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated further today after Pakistan’s air defense forces shot down an Indian drone that allegedly violated its airspace. The drone was intercepted over Gujranwala Cantonment in Punjab Province, triggering high alert in the region.
According to official sources, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was detected flying at a high altitude and was promptly engaged by Pakistan’s defense systems. Two shots were fired, successfully destroying the drone. The wreckage landed in agricultural fields near the village of Pir Jhanda in the Gujrat District.
The incident comes just days after India conducted airstrikes on what it described as “terrorist infrastructure” inside Pakistan in retaliation for a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir. Pakistan has strongly condemned these strikes, labeling them an “act of war” and vowing to defend its sovereignty.
“Any violation of our airspace will be met with full force,” a Pakistani military spokesperson stated.
Both nations have placed their militaries on high alert. The international community, including the UN and major global powers, is urging both sides to exercise restraint to avoid further escalation.
